Weekend Update
13 Dec 2009 by Amy
The entire Cobra Wrestling team participated in events this weekend. The Varsity team participated at the Howard Duals while the JV team was busy at the Meade Meltdown at Meade High School.
At Meade High School, Coach Culver saw his wrestlers demonstrate their skills. Improvement was seen from day one into day two, eliminating common beginner mistakes and working on intermediate and advanced moves. Congrats to those wrestlers who made some noise in the tournament!
Meanwhile, at Howard High School, the Varsity team tore through the competition. They outscored their opponents 313-102 and finished in third place behind Mt. Saint Joseph and Liberty with a 6-1 record.
Wrestlers that went undefeated include: Brandon Hoch, Brandon Gain, Mark Massimini and Jamie Rappazzo. Way to go!
Ryan Beatty, AJ Tutino, Joey Malanga, George Majchrzak, Patrick Rivera and Josh Smith should also be congratulated on losing only once. Great Job!

Cobras Go 1-1
10 Dec 2009 by Amy
The Cobras defeated Francis Scott Key 47-25, but lost a close one to Hereford 32-29. Despite the Cobras winning 8 of the 14 weight classes, the team was unable to clench the win, giving up too many pin points to Hereford.
The best bout of the night came from Josh Smith (285) during the Hereford match. The score was tied 1-1 at the end of the third period. No points were scored in overtime, so each wrestler had their :30 second chance to score points. Josh was able to hold onto his opponent and not let him score. When it was Josh's turn, he chose bottom and nimbly shot up and scored one point. As time clicked by, he sealed his victory winning 2-1 in double overtime.
Congratulations to the wrestlers who went 2-0 on the night: Brandon Gain, Joe Malanga, Jamie Rappazzo, Patrick Rivera and Josh Smith.

Cobras Begin The Season
05 Dec 2009 by Amy
The Cobra wrestling team traveled to Southern Garrett High School in Oakland, Maryland on Friday. They faced Frankford, WV and defending Maryland State champs, Southern Garrett.
The Cobras started the evening with a bang defeating the West Virginia team 72-6. The quickest pin of the night came from Jamie Rappazzo with a :15 second pin. Way to go!
Despite a loss to SG, there was heated action throughout the night. Even though it was mathematically imossible for the Cobras to win, the last match of the evening didn't have any less excitement. Ryan Beatty wrapped up the 103 pound weight class with a pin in the end of the third period.
Wrestlers that went 2-0 include: Ryan Beatty, AJ Tutino, Brandon Gain, Mark Massimini and Josh Smith. Way to go guys!!!!
The next match is also a tri meet. See you all on Wednesday, December 9th in the Cobra Pit @ 3:30 pm.
