Head Coach: Gary Siler
Coach Gary Siler

Coach Siler served honorably in the US Army after graduating from Bel Air High School, where he played football and wrestled. Following that, Siler began working in the masonry field, eventually running his own business. After being hired at Harford Tech, he continued his education and received his degree from the University of Maryland in Vocational Education.

When Coach Siler arrived at Harford Tech in 1988, he took on the challenge of coaching a failing wrestling program. He has slowly built the program to what it is today and is very proud of his success. Through the development of the JV program in 1995, Siler has put together three full rosters consisting of JV, Varsity B and Varsity A. He takes great pride in the fact that they have never forfeited a match in a county tournament since 1996. This year Coach Siler is proud to return with Coach Taylor, Coach Ucci and Coach Culver. The coaching staff also includes Coach Watson, teacher and coach at Harford Tech, who is a tremendous asset again this year to the team with his strength and conditioning program. Coach Gary Siler

Siler brings 21 years of head coaching experience with over 200 career wins to the Cobra Wrestling team. Under his helm, Harford Tech has won numerous County, Conference and Regional titles but above all, the coveted Maryland State Wrestling Championship title. Coach Siler has been recognized by The Aegis as Male Coach of the Year in 1999 and by The Baltimore Sun as Male Coach of the Year in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 as well as the All-Metro Coach of the Year in 2006. He was also selected twice to coach the Senior Classic Team.

You can often hear him say, "Practice the way you want to wrestle", because he thinks hard work and drilling technique is the key to success in wrestling. Win or lose, Coach Siler stresses the importance of good sportsmanship and gives out an award in honor of Lance Sims, one of his former wrestlers who died tragically. He also recognizes dedication by awarding an Outstanding Wrestler Award every year.

Coach Siler has demonstrated success in his masonry class at Harford Tech as well. He has produced seven state champions and six national place winners in VICA masonry competitions. He has been recognized for teaching excellence, being nominated by numerous students in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He also won the Educator of the Year Award by the MSNVP (Maryland Special Needs Vocational Personnel) in 1997, the Maryland Teacher of the Year Award by the MVA (Maryland Vocational Association) in 1997 and the Maryland Educator of the Year Award by MVA in 1998.
